Rust in Peace

Rust in Peace

To create this bracelet I've fabricated a chain with ten fabulous, chunky, lampwork glass discs made by Scottish lampworker Helen Chalmers. These simple discs are each made with a different colour opaque glass; blues, soft peachy pinks, pale green, smoky purple and Himalaya yellow-green, each with a deep rusty, silver laden edge. Helen says this combination of colours reminds her of 'piles of rusty machinery with lovely painted colours, just waiting to be photographed'. With that description I can picture the junkyard in my mind, with its faded colours and peeling paint, and I can see exactly what she means. For my design I think I have kept to the simplistic intent the artist had for her beads. I have created a simple wired silver chain, finished with hammered silver rings and an oversized silver hook clasp. The bracelet measures about 22cm (9.5") in total and is adjustable as the clasp can be hooked anywhere along the chain to close at the perfect length. It is quite a chunky piece, so would best fit a wrist 6.5" and larger. This bracelet has been hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office with the 925 fineness mark, the Birmingham anchor and my own maker's mark, which guarantees the silver is sterling quality.
